In this book, Greg has been abandoned by his best friend Rowley. Rowley has a girlfriend, Abigail, and they are together all the time. Since Rowley doesn't have time for Greg anymore, he decides to make a new friend. He then finds a magic eight ball and allows it to make the decisions for him. From there on he asks everything to this ball, shakes it and an answer pops up on the small screen of the ball. Greg falls behind on school work and he needs to catch up, otherwise he will need to attend summer school. Abigail breaks up with Rowley and goes back to her ex-boyfriend. Greg forgives Rowley and are best friends again.
