Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Max wears his wolf suit and plays around over and over that one night. He was been mischievous so his mother called him wild thing and he said he would eat her up so his mother send him to bed without supper. He goes to his room and lets his imagination grow. Suddenly a forest grew and grew in his room. He went off on a boat where the wild things were at. He was made the king of the wild things as he was not afraid of any of them.  He got tired of feeling lonely. He send the wild things off to bed without supper and headed back where he knew he was truly loved, at home.

This book is about a little boy who is scare of a nightmare which lives in his closet. He always assures himself that his closet door is close. He's too afraid to look back. He sleeps with his toy gun and pretends to shoot the nightmare. Then one night he decides to be brave and he leaves the closet door open and a new adventure unfolds. 



Lionni, L.  (1963). Swimmy. New York, NY: Pantheon Books.

Swimmy lived with his brothers and sisters. A tuna fish ate his siblings, but he escaped. He meets different sea animals as he swims alone into the sea. Swimmy meets other fish, but they are afraid to be eaten by the big fish if they swim away with him. Swimmy comes up with a plan. He teaches the little fish to swim together forming a big fish. Swimmy, being black, becomes the eye of the big fish. As one giant fish, they scare the big fish away.
